Isn't it, though?

I thought about making it the subject line of my post, but decided that it would give too much away. :)

It would be inspired if it were the Onion...

Wow... this would indeed be brilliant as parody...

I think it would be better parody if the ads were sponsoring the formulas themselves.

Ads in school

It's not like students haven't been forced to watch ads in school already. This seems much less objectionable. (They showed that garbage in my high school. I remember being livid when I (having asked if they'd turn off the TV) was told they were required to show it and not turn it off or mute it, since that agreement was how we got TVs in the classrooms. I can't even begin to say what's wrong with this picture.)

I think this scheme is pretty clever on the part of the teacher, and the particulars in this case (often parents or others supplying inspiring quotes, according to the article) seem fine. But I really hate to see an avenue for yet more advertising in schools. We already have so much of it already, from product placement (vending machines, fast food) to outright ads in the halls in some places. It's depressing.

Interesting. I mean, Channel One is providing free equipment to the schools. I'm not sure I entirely see the difference, except that it sounds like Channel One isn't actually very good quality.
